As my fly out day quickly approaches and finals end, many
friends have approached me inquiring about my excitement to return to Czech. I always respond with a wide grin, widened
eyes, and squeak out the words “I am so excited!” As the conversation continues, my friends
generally allude to the fact that I will not be spending lots of time at home
this summer. However, I see it
differently. I am spending my entire summer
at home. I have come to understand that
I have three homes. I have my childhood
home – the place where I will always have a bed, my parents, and a lifetime of
memories. I have my school home – the
university I live at for about nine months of the year. And then I have Czech – my summer home. Some people may see it strange to have three
different homes, but to me it is completely normal. Actually, my “home address” is the place I
spend the least amount of time of the three!
Sorry mom. ;)
If I were to live by the traditional phrase “home is where
the heart is,” I would continue to be conflicted as my heart has been equally
dispersed in all three places. Each
place includes so many joys and growth in a variety of ways. Yet, I live by the phrase “home is where the
heart is” in my walk with Christ. My
heart is in Jesus, and in knowing I have a home in him, I become satisfied in
having so many “Earthly” homes because each one of them has shown me the love
of Christ. So, yes, I will always be
traveling to home and traveling from home, because at each place I have to say
some hard goodbyes, but I also get to look forward to something coming around
the corner.
